Hokkaido University and the next day

To continue last post, when I visited Sapporo in Golden Week, I visited Hokkaido University, Hokudai. Hokudai is a national university located near Sapporo station. It was one of seven Imperial Universities in early 1900s. I visited Hokudai for the first time ever. Hokudai have large campus. Everyone can walk around in Hokudai campus. There are some famous spots in Hokudai such as an avenue of poplars, Dr. Clark's statue. William Smith Clark, Dr. Clark, was American teacher and educator. His phrase "boys, be ambitious" is famous and impressive. There are several Dr. Clark's statues in Sapporo. I found a colorful duck in the campus. Dr. Clark's statue  My grandfather was from Hokkaido. His niece and probably his brother were once teaching law in Hokudai. They were lawyer. I think there are my relatives in Hokkaido even though I don't keep in touch with them.   The next day I went to Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill. From Fukusumi subway station, it takes about fif...

Sapporo TV Tower, Sapporo City Hall cafeteria, and Sapporo Clock Tower

The next day after arriving at Sapporo I visited Sapporo TV Tower where we can get through underground street. Sapporo TV tower was established in 1956. It's 147.2 meters tall. Now it's become landmark of Sapporo. You can look at O-dori Park from observation deck. Because it was late April when I visited TV tower, I could look at cherry blossoms from there. The view from observatory was beautiful. Viewing from observatory  After getting off TV tower I went to Sapporo City Hall for lunch. There is cafeteria in underground floor in Sapporo City Hall. Meals are cheap and good taste there. I ate lunch meal. The cafeteria is available for everyone even though it is for Sapporo City Hall staff. Sapporo City Hall cafeteria  After lunch I visited Sapporo Clock Tower. Sapporo TV Tower is popular spot for visitor and so is Sapporo Clock Tower. Sapporo Clock Tower was established about 130 years ago. Originally it was a kind of gym in Sapporo Agricultural College which was former S...

Six-Day Trip to Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan

I took a trip to Sapporo, Hokkaido three weeks ago. That was third time to visit Sapporo. First time was when I was a high school student. Second time was about fifteen years ago. It's been a while to visit Sapporo.   I went to Sapporo by airplane from Narita airport. It takes about one hour to get to Narita airport from Tokyo station by bus. And It takes about one hour and a half to get to Shin-Chitose airport in Hokkaido from Narita by airplane. We usually use train from Shin-Chitose airport to Sapporo station.  Hokkaido is north part in Japan, so it's cooler in Hokkaido than in Tokyo. In winter there is much snow in Hokkaido. Every year early February Sapporo Snow Festival is held in Sapporo. I've never seen that festival yet. I'm so sorry for no Sapporo Snow Festival this year because of covid-19 pandemic.   I stayed in Raffinato Sapporo Hotel near Susukino area where there are many restaurants, bars, night clubs like Kabukicho in Tokyo. Cost per day in Raff...
